1When did you start training, and what inspired you to start?
I began practicing Taekwon-Do in 1994 at the age of 8 under Grand Master Pierpaolo Lecca.

Starting Taekwon-Do was purely by chance—I had no idea what martial arts were about when I attended my first class. But from the moment that class ended, I knew Taekwon-Do would become something meaningful in my life. I never could have imagined just how important it would become.

Just two months after I started training, I participated in my first tournament and earned a silver medal in patterns. In February 1998, I achieved my 1st Dan black belt and later that year competed in my first national tournament outside Sardinia, winning a bronze medal.
2What has been the most significant achievement in your career?
Over the years, I became a multiple-time regional and national champion in patterns, sparring, and special techniques. My first international experience came in November 2002 at the Junior World Championships in Argentina, where I earned a silver and a bronze medal. That marked the beginning of my journey competing around the world with great success.

In 2005, I began teaching and founded Taekwon-Do Sardegna in Sardinia, Italy. Today, I lead the TKD Sardegna Team together with Christian and a dedicated team of instructors.

In 2023, I was honoured by the ITF with the Outstanding Competitor award, becoming the first Italian athlete inducted into the ITF Hall of Fame. In 2024, I was appointed to the national technical committee of the FITAE Italian Federation.
3 Why should people train with you at the Golden Summer Camp?
The Golden Summer Camp will be an incredible opportunity for everyone to come together for a weekend of training, competition, and connection in a beautiful setting. With top-level instructors from around the world, the event will go beyond just patterns and sparring—it will also include power breaking and a variety of other Taekwon-Do topics.

We especially encourage families to join us in Sardinia for an unforgettable experience that combines a holiday, a competition, and a world-class seminar for both adults and children.

1When did you start training, and what inspired you to start?
My journey began when I was just 8 or 9 years old in Monte Grande, Argentina. I trained under the technical direction of Grandmaster Nestor Galarraga, but in the early days, I was lucky to learn from incredible instructors like Federico Pascual, Alejandro Banega, and Omar Reberg. I still remember my very first tournament—I won silver as a yellow belt. That year, the trophies were huge, and that moment lit a fire in me. I trained almost every day, two to three sessions daily, driven by a dream to be the best. My idols were Paul Germain and Pierre Guenette from Canada.
2What has been the most significant achievement in your career?
From 2003 to 2013, I was proud to represent the Spanish National Team. I won two World Championships and stood on the podium at several others. I was fortunate to also win Pan-American and European Championships. But my favorite memories are two: winning bronze at my first World Championship in Korea (ITF Choi Jung Hwa, 2004, -70kg) — what an incredible feeling — and the 2017 World Championship in Ireland, where Silvia and I reached the finals together in Pre-arranged Sparring. Interestingly, my first experience with Pre-arranged Sparring was back in 2001 at the World Championship in Rimini, performing with Alejandro Banega. It was unforgettable.

In 2013, I made another big move — this time to the beautiful island of Sardinia, alongside Silvia. Together, we opened a small gym and formed the TKD Sardegna Team with a few dedicated instructors. We worked hard, both as competitors and coaches, and together with our students, we've earned many medals at top-level events.

After many years of competing, I was honoured to be named the Italy National Coach.
3 Why should people train with you at the Golden Summer Camp?
I’ve traveled the world and experienced life as a competitor and organiser—and now as a father of two beautiful children. With the Sardinia Open and Golden Summer Camp, my goal is to combine it all: a top-level competition for all ranks and ages, where parents feel welcome and athletes can share valuable training time with world-class instructors. I believe Sardinia Open has the potential to become a major reference point in the world of Taekwon-Do. We pour our hearts into it, and each year we strive to raise the bar even higher.

Golden Summer Camp (GSC) is our newest challenge. It’s a space where people can compete, train hard, and enjoy the peace and beauty of Sardinia. With the help of many experienced professionals—like Johan De Silva—we’re building something truly special.

Come join us. We’re just getting started.

In Buenos Aires, in 1987 at the age of 10. In April 1987, 200 meters from my house, a Dojang began to operate and I was there on the opening day. I was the first black belt of that Dojang, in 1992.
3What has been the most significant achievement in your career?
The World Cup in Slovenia was and will be the most beautiful championship that I will remember forever, not only for the results and for having been able to compete at my current age, but for having done it with friends, coaches of the national team and great champions and referents of the Argentine Taekwon-Do. I was also able to share one of the last competitions with my power breaking coach and friend, Master Roberto Mattar. The World Championship in Finland as a coach was very important for the achievements in general and in power breaking in particular, where we got 2 podiums and a gold medal in teams.
